The Asutifi South District Assembly, in partnership with IRC Ghana, successfully organized a District Town Hall Meeting on Quality Water Services on 23rd June 2026 at the District Assembly Conference Hall.
The meeting brought together District Assembly officials, traditional authorities, water service providers, community leaders and residents to deliberate on issues emerging from the 2025 WASH service monitoring.
The engagement aimed to update stakeholders on the implementation of the District WASH Master Plan and the current state of water service delivery. It also provided a platform for citizens to share their experiences, concerns and recommendations regarding water services within the district.
The programme commenced with welcome remarks delivered by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. George Osei, who highlighted the importance of the meeting and outlined its objectives. This was followed by presentations on the implementation progress of the District WASH Master Plan by the Development Planning Officer and on quality water service delivery by Mr. Jeremiah of IRC Ghana.
Participants actively engaged in discussions by reviewing the findings and seeking clarification on key issues raised in the reports. Deliberations centered on the quality, accessibility, reliability, and sustainability of water services confronting communities in the District.
Key concerns raised by participants included frequent interruptions in water supply, the need to expand water service coverage to underserved communities, the high cost of water supplied by service providers, water quality concerns, and the need for improved communication and customer engagement between service providers and consumers.
In response, water service providers addressed the concerns raised and outlined ongoing and planned interventions aimed at enhancing service delivery. District officials also provided updates on measures being undertaken to strengthen the implementation of WASH programmes and improve access to safe water across the District.
The town hall meeting served as a valuable forum for dialogue and stakeholder engagement on water service delivery. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring equitable access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water services for all residents.
The meeting concluded successfully with a renewed call for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to address existing challenges and improve the overall quality of water and sanitation services in the Asutifi South District.
