- GENERAL PROFILE OF THE ASSEMBLY:
The Asutifi South District Assembly is one of the Five (5) newly created District Assemblies in the Region which were inaugurated on 28th June, 2012. It was carved out of the former Asutifi District by Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2054), as a result of Government’s desire to ensure equity in development and allocation of resources across the country.
The District has a total land area of about 750 square kilometres and an estimated population of Fifty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty-Five (53,365) with a growth rate of 2.5% per annum. Hwidiem is the capital town of the District which is about Fifty-Five kilometres (55km) from Sunyani, the regional capital.
The District shares boundary with Asutifi North District to the North, Asunafo South District and Atwima Mponua District (Ashanti Region) to the South, Asunafo North Municipal to the East and Ahafo Ano North District (Ashanti Region) to the West.
- VISION/MISSION STATEMENTS OF THE ASSEMBLY:
- Vision Statement:
The Asutifi South District Assembly’s vision is to reduce the level of socio-economic deprivation in the district.
- Mission Statement:
The Asutifi South District Assembly exists to mobilize resources to provide Basic Social Services and to create an enabling environment for wealth creation in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations.
- FUNCTIONS OF THE ASSEMBLY:
The functions of the Asutifi South District Assembly are derived from the Local Governmence Act, 2016, (Act 936) and Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2054 of 2012. The Assembly with regards to this Act exercises Political and Administrative functions in the District, provides guidance and directions to projects and developments and supervises all other administrative Agencies in the District.
The functions of the Assembly are summarized into Deliberative, Legislative and Executive functions, and out of these the Assembly is charged with the overall development of the District.

- ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE:
The Organisational Structure of the District Assembly has the Body Assembly at the Apex. Next and below the Body Assembly is the District Chief Executive (DCE) who is the political and administration head of the District and performs through the District Co-ordinating Director (DCD) who Co-ordinates the activities of all Agencies and Departments in the District.
The Central Administration performs the day-to-day duties of the Assembly. It operationalizes and implements decisions as well as policies of the General Assembly. The Central Administration entails the core Staff of the District Assembly as well as Staff of the Departments of the Assembly, under the leadership of the District Co-ordinating Director.
There is also the District Planning Co-ordinating Unit (DPCU) which consists of the Core Staff of the Central Administration and Heads of some of the Departments of the Assembly including Education, Agriculture, Health and Others. This is clearly depicted on the attached sheet.
- STRUCTRURE OF THE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY:
The Asutifi South District Assembly is made up of Twenty-Three (23) Elected Members and Eleven (11) Government Appointees; One (1) Member of Parliament and a District Chief Executive. The District has Four (4) Area Councils, namely; Acherensua, Hwidiem, Nkasaim and Dadiesoaba. The District has a total of Twenty-Three (23) Unit Committees.

As a new District, the Assembly is still collaborating with some Departments, Agencies and Services of the parent Assembly (Asutifi North District Assembly) in the performance of its core duties.
