Asutifi South District Leadership Welcomes Blue Water Guards After Successful Passing-Out Ceremony

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South District Assembly, Hon. Assabil Donkor Benjamin, together with the Presiding Member, Hon. Alhassan Mohammed, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. George Osei, and other district executives, officially welcomed the newly trained Blue Water Guards to the district following their successful passing-out ceremony.

The engagement formed part of efforts to familiarize the officers with the district leadership and reaffirm the Assembly’s commitment to supporting environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management within the municipality.

During the meeting, the district leadership congratulated the Blue Water Guards on the successful completion of their intensive training conducted by the Ghana Navy and commended them for accepting the national responsibility of protecting Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves from illegal mining activities.

The Blue Water Guards, an environmental protection force established to help combat illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey,” are expected to play a critical role in safeguarding rivers, streams, and other natural resources from pollution and destruction.

Addressing the officers, Hon. Assabil Donkor Benjamin emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and collaboration with local authorities and communities in carrying out their mandate effectively. Mr. George Osei also encouraged the team to remain committed to protecting the environment while promoting peace and cooperation within the district.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Alhassan Mohammed noted that the presence of the Blue Water Guards in the district represents a major step toward protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development for future generations. He urged the officers to discharge their duties with integrity, commitment, and fairness while working closely with community members and stakeholders.

The Human Resource Manager also addressed the officers and advised them to remain disciplined, respectful, and committed in the discharge of their duties. The Manager emphasized that discipline, teamwork, and professionalism are essential qualities needed to ensure the success of their operations and maintain public trust within the communities they serve.

The meeting provided an opportunity for interaction between the district executives and the officers, allowing both parties to discuss expectations, operational support, and the importance of community engagement in the fight against illegal mining.

The Assembly expressed confidence in the ability of the Blue Water Guards to contribute meaningfully toward preserving the district’s natural resources and ensuring a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for future generations.
