Assembly Members of the Asutifi South District Assembly participated in a two-day Nationwide Next Generation Leadership Training from Wednesday, 29 to Thursday, 30 July 2026, at the District Assembly Hall in Hwidiem.
The training was jointly organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA), the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS).
The programme aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of decentralisation and local governance while strengthening their ability to perform their deliberative, legislative, representative, executive and oversight responsibilities effectively.
Sessions covered decentralisation and local governance laws, corporate governance, meeting procedures, the making and enforcement of by-laws, executive mandates of MMDAs, leadership, community mobilisation and stakeholder engagement. Participants were also introduced to the Leadership Change-Making Project and encouraged to identify practical development initiatives for their respective electoral areas.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Joseph Owusu of NALAG, Mrs. Rebecca Akalari of ILGS and Madam Georgina Otu of ILGS. Participants included the Presiding Member, District Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments, Assembly Members and members of staff.
Throughout the training, participants actively engaged in discussions, group activities and experience-sharing. Assembly Members expressed appreciation for the programme and called for periodic refresher training to keep them informed about emerging developments in local governance.
The training concluded with a call on participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to promote effective leadership, accountability and sustainable development within their electoral areas. The Assembly expressed its appreciation to MLGCRA, NALAG and ILGS for organising the programme.
