Asutifi South District in the new Ahafo Region marked this year’s 35th Farmers’ Day celebration in grand style.The celebration was marked under the theme: ‘Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development.’ The Hon. DCE Robert Dwomor Mensah in his key note address said the day had been specially set aside to celebrate able farmers who contribute essential services to the District and the country regardless of their annual challenges.He suggested that the county takes a critical look at the Agriculture Budget Allocation which will help as a boaster for the Agriculture Sector and the country’s economy.
Highlighting on the remarkable contributions the NPP government had made towards improving agriculture and supporting farmers in the Asutifi South District in his 3rd year in office as DCE, Hon.Robert Dwomor Mensah mentioned that the various initiatives introduced by the government were for all and that the District hadn’t been left out. Amongst them was the provision of 200,000 coconut seedlings in 2020 to support the Planting for Export and Development initiative, the DCE said.
In his submission, he encouraged farmers within the district to be hopeful in the NPP government and critically consider all the agricultural initiatives introduced by the government for he, the DCE and his government are committed to working with them to continue feeding the population of the country.
The District Best Farmer award went to Mr. Asi Alex from Odurokrom near Nkaseim who took home a tricycle, Knapsack sprayers, fertilizers, water pumping machine among others and a certificate in honour of his contribution towards agriculture in the district.
The celebration saw display of farm produce from farmers all over in the district at Wuramumuso a suburb of Hwidiem the District’s Capital. The chairman of the occasion, the Paramount Chief and President of Hwidiem Traditional Area, Osuodumgya Barima Apea-Dwaah Boafo II, charged the youth in his opening remarks to stay home and farm because agriculture has become more attractive than before.
In attendance also was NPP Parliamentary Candidate elect for Asutifi South Constituency and CEO of Venture Capital, Hon. Yaw Owusu-Brempong and all Security Heads, Heads of Departments and Agencies of government within the district.
