The Asutifi South District Assembly on 23rd April 2026 organized a Capacity Building Workshop for Area Council Members aimed at strengthening local governance and improving service delivery standards within the district.
The workshop brought together members from the Acherensua Area Council, Hwidiem Area Council, Nkaseim Area Council, and Dadiesoaba Area Council to deepen their understanding of their roles and responsibilities in promoting grassroots development and effective local administration.
The programme was attended by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. George Osei, and the Presiding Member, Hon. Alhassan Mohammed, alongside other officials of the Assembly.
During the workshop, participants were taken through a series of presentations and discussions focusing on local governance systems, revenue mobilization, community engagement, accountability, leadership, and strategies for improving service delivery at the local level. The sessions also emphasized the importance of collaboration between Area Councils and the District Assembly in addressing community development challenges.
Addressing participants, Mr. George Osei encouraged members to remain proactive and committed to their duties, stressing that effective local governance plays a crucial role in accelerating development within communities.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Alhassan Mohammed, also urged Area Council Members to work closely with their respective communities and uphold transparency, discipline, and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“Area Councils serve as an important link between the Assembly and the people. Your commitment and active participation are essential in ensuring development reaches every community within the district,” Hon. Alhassan Mohammed stated.
Participants actively engaged in the discussions, shared experiences, and proposed practical recommendations aimed at improving operational effectiveness and strengthening grassroots participation in governance processes.
The workshop successfully enhanced the knowledge and capacity of Area Council Members, equipping them with the necessary skills and understanding to effectively support local governance and community development initiatives.
The programme ended on a positive note with renewed commitment from participants to work collaboratively with the Assembly in promoting inclusive development, improved service delivery, and sustainable progress across the district.
