On Thursday, 23rd October 2025, the Social Welfare Department convened a meeting of the Social Services Sub-Committee at the District Assembly Conference Hall. The session brought together key stakeholders from the Education, Health, and Water sectors to deliberate on vital issues affecting the well-being of residents across the district.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed of the Sub-Committee, who welcomed members and outlined the day’s agenda. Discussions began with updates from the Education Department, which highlighted progress at the Acherensua Presbyterian School and shared a report on the just-ended West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Members commended the improved performance of students and encouraged continued collaboration between schools, parents, and community leaders to sustain the gains made.
Attention then shifted to health matters within the district. The Health Directorate provided insights into current health challenges, including maternal and child welfare concerns, and emphasized the need for intensified public health education and preventive care.
The meeting also featured a presentation by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) on the water situation in Hwidiem. The agency acknowledged ongoing supply challenges and assured members that efforts were underway to restore consistent access to safe and potable water for residents.
In closing, the Chairman thanked all members for their active participation and urged them to continue working together to improve social welfare services in the district. The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with a renewed commitment to enhancing education, healthcare, and water access for all communities.
